About This Special Issue
Biomaterials are materials that are compatible with biological systems. Besides the features that make applicable these materials in biomechanics engineering, there are several aspects to be characterized and which need significant improvements, such as life span, mechanical and tribological characteristics, biocompatibility and toxicity. A comprehensive interdisciplinary research and development effort is ongoing to address these issues. This special issue includes new original research articles, reviews, and case studies in the analysis of biomaterials and their use in biomechanical applications. Also, combining the principles of mechanical engineering with biology, the studies of this issue are addressed to solve problems at the interfaces between engineering, biology and clinical practice.
