The issue of biodiversity and conservation has been a global concern. A number of wild and domesticated floras and fauna including those which occupy human-dominated landscape have been in use for various purposes since antiquity. High human density and resultant pressure on plant resources and habitats have pushed many species towards rarity and local extinction in course of ecological demand. Maintaining patches of natural vegetation within the human dominated landscape is the only way to conserve nature flora. Therefore landscape level analysis of vegetation becomes vital for assessing the availability of plant resources, patterns of species diversity and identification of botanical hot spots.

One of the challenges of conservation of rare, threatened and endemic plants is the identification of their ecological niches and the amplitude of distribution. In order to conserve maximum range of regional biodiversity better understanding of vegetation dynamics at spatio-temporal scale and successional trends would be required. A detailed study of endemism in diverse ecological region from local to global scale is necessary to define the priorities in conservation policy. This special issue is to improve the dissemination of advanced innovative research in the area of flora and fauna taxonomy, biodiversity conservation, ecological challenges and applications, species concept and delimitations. Original research papers are solicited in any aspect of biodiversity assessment in relation environmental challenges.
