About This Special Issue
The central event in the pathogenesis of various diseases is exaggerated immune response to the commensal intestinal microbiota or its specific members, either progressed by various other factors. Microbiome has been shown to be associated with various host disease and health via contributing in metabolic functions, protection against pathogens and educating the immune system. A huge number of microorganisms (about ten times the total cells of the human body) reside in human gut. The gut microbiota is highly variable and represented by 500-1000 sp. As some groups have demonstrated significant alteration in the composition of enteric bacteria that might be related to the metabolic alteration, nutrient unavailability, which may further affect the immune signalling and cells functions. With recent advancement in technology and crucial role played by microbiome in health and disease, microbiome has become currently exciting subject of intense investigation in recent years. Extensive analysis of microbiome in health and disease will lead to identify the causative microbes for various diseases and help to design the prebiotics and probiotics to serve as therapeutic approach for various diseases.

Aims and Scope:

  1. Microbiome
  2. Commensal microbes
  3. Probiotics
  4. Pathogens
  5. Dysbiosis and Inflammation
  6. Immunology and Metabolomics
