About This Special Issue
Chronic disease refers to an illness or a medical condition that lasts over a long period and sometimes causes a long-term change in the body. Adolescents are vulnerable to the risk factors that contribute to chronic diseases, whether from unhealthy dietary practices, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol, and exposure to some environmental factors that have the potentials to trigger chronic diseases. The seismic shift or transition in the dietary practices and lifestyle behaviours among adolescents in developing nations has ushered in an era of chronic diseases “epidemic” in developing nations characterized by low resources, inefficient and ineffective healthcare system and a myriad of systemic problems make this new challenges appear insurmountable. However, research into the epidemiology, prevalence, risk factors, prevention and management of prevalent chronic diseases among adolescent, self-management of chronic diseases, medication compliance, public health policy formulation, and capacity building will halt the onslaught of chronic diseases among adolescents. Adolescent health and chronic diseases provides ample opportunity for scholars and professionals with the desire to improve the quality of adolescent health in developing nations to provide articles on research, clinical practice, prevention of chronic diseases, organization and delivery of adolescent health services globally.
