About This Special Issue
Reservoir characterization and modeling is essential in the industry of hydrocarbon exploration and production, and in practice, such work often involves interdisciplinary collaboration of geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and petroleum engineering. With the recent developments in computing capacity and data visualization as well as the high demand for high-resolution subsurface interpretation, the volume of data available is rapidly exploding, especially the 3D seismic surveys, well logs and core information. Meanwhile, reliable reservoir characterization requires a combination of information from geoscience and geoengineering in an automatic or semiautomatic manner, so that a full description of the reservoir properties could be obtained. The purpose of this special issue is to provide techniques for understanding the state-of-the-art in computer-aided reservoir characterization and interpretation.

Aim and Scop:

We are seeking submissions on related topics including but not restricted to:
New methods for subsurface interpretation and formation evaluation
New algorithms for processing and interpreting geophysical data (e.g., seismic data and well log)
New tools for data correlation from different sources (e.g., seismic survey and drilling)
New geologic insights obtained using computer-aided reservoir characterization
Case studies of reservoir characterization
