About This Special Issue
The special issue “Smart Cities – Innovative Approaches” within the American Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering discusses an application of the smart environment paradigm in modern urban life. Such paradigm contains broad future vision of embedding state-of-the-art technology advances into architectural and urbanistic city structures to improve the quality of everyday life. In particular, the purpose of this special issue is to publish high-quality research papers or review articles which deal with innovative engineering approaches in urban environments ranging from integration of renewable energy resources into urban power network up to implementation of efficient communication technologies and ubiquitous sensor networks with potential applications in e.g. traffic, noise and water level control, personal entertainment, medical monitoring etc. In addition, in this special issue we aim to present and discuss methods and innovations regarding detection, preservation and improvement of different urban environments. By providing and discussing different aspects and viewpoints onto merging technology and urban structure within this special issue we also believe that synergistic effect of papers can be yielded which might eventually provide directions for holistic research together with possibly contributing to some new urban policies.

Aims and Scope:

  1. Urban environments
  2. Communication technologies
  3. Sensor networks
  4. Condition monitoring
  5. Smart cities
  6. Innovative applications
