About This Special Issue
Tourism is a complex activity which has developed throughout time and has attracted a considerable amount of the global population. Different types and forms of tourism have emerged under the direct influence of socio-economic factors. Currently, the number of tourists has exceeded 1.23 billion, security issues, globalization and pollution included. Easy access to information and online reservations, the appearance of low cost airlines contributed to the development and emergence of new tourist destinations. OMT specialists' predictions for 2030 are optimistic; the number of international tourist arrivals will reach 1.8 billion. In order to support a large number of tourists, the system requires a pristine environment and rational exploitation of tourism resources, whether natural or anthropogenic. This equally involves education targeting tourists and locals, adoption and implementation of laws in the field and preserving the local cultural heritage.
